Korea University (KU), celebrating its centennial in 2005, is one of the oldest, largest and most prestigious universities in Korea. KU is nationally recognized for its commitment to teaching and academic excellence. The university’s academic breadth is extensive with its 81 departments in 19 colleges and divisions, and 18 graduate schools with more than 1,400 full-time faculty members.
The Multimedia Computing and Networking Group plays a leading role in the field of multimedia signal processing and communications. In order to achieve a worldwide competent technological leadership role, this group has been actively searching and studying a wide range of upcoming techniques related to these fields. Specifically, the group has successfully completed various projects with the support of local and worldwide global industries and governments, and contributed to technological innovations and leading consumer services in today’s multimedia revolution.
Currently, more than 50 members are working toward promising research topics, such as error-resilient image and video coding, ultrahigh definition video processing and communications, and MPEG standardization. The group has published more than hundred international journal papers, most of them in the IEE, IEEE, and ACM Transactions and holds over 50 domestic and international patents. The scientific achievements of the group have been widely acknowledged in Korea and recently global partnership with international research institutes is significantly intensified.
